Why Poor Stormwater Drainage Can Damage Your Property

One of the biggest defects I find during home inspections is poor or insufficient stormwater drainage. It’s something most homeowners don’t think about – until their property starts flooding and causing major defects. By then, it’s already a costly problem to fix.

Good drainage is essential to direct rainwater away from your home. Downpipes and yard drains should lead water to designated municipal stormwater pipes or the street, where it can safely flow away.

When water pools near your house, it can cause serious damage to the property, including:

  • Foundation problems that lead to structural cracks
  • Rising damp that damages walls and floors
  • Limited access to outside areas
  • Expensive repairs that could have been avoided

Fixing drainage issues before they cause damage is always the better option. A stormwater inspection can spot potential problems early, saving you stress (and money) down the line.

If you’re not sure whether your home’s drainage is up to standard, let’s take a look before the rainy season hits!
